Requiem Latin Mass Tomorrow (Saturday Jan 17) for Latin Mass Supporter. Please Attend.

The following is re-posted from the blog of the Toronto Traditional Mass Society. In repose of the deceased's soul, as well as to support Latin Mass efforts in the Archdiocese of Toronto, I highly implore you to attend.

 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing into eternity of our long-time friend and member Mrs. Carmelle Emma Harrison. Our sister [editorial note: of Christ, not religious sister] passed away on Monday, January 12, 2015 in the presence of her sister and nephew. 

 Carmelle is resting at the Marshall Funeral Home 10366 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill. Visitation is on Friday, January 16 from 2:00 - 4:00 in the afternoon and from 7:00 - 9:00 in the evening.

 The Sung Requiem Mass in the traditional Rite in which Carmelle loved will be celebrated on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of St. Mary Immaculate at 10295 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill with internment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto"

    St. Patrick's Gregorian Choir Sacred Heart Mass This Friday June 27th, 2014 at 7pm! Also other little Latin Mass Tidbits.

    Hello Everyone!

    I come as a bearer of good news! I have today for all of you one major announcement this week for the Latin Mass in the Archdiocese of Toronto, as well as other related tidbits that caught my eye this week.

    1) St. Patrick`s Gregorian Choir is organizing it`s annual Sacred Heart Mass for 2014 this week. This choir, headed under the graceful direction of choirmaster Surinder S. Mundra, has been in existence since 2006 when it formed on the EF feast for Christ the King in 2006. Since then, the choir has striven to bring grace and reverence to the EF in the Archdiocese of Toronto, bring much inspiration to the EF.

    What I love about working with the choir (at the serving end of things), and have witnessed when observing some of the choir practices, prior to my serving instruction, its how its members are committed to singing properly and with excellence, Gregorian Chant. The choir consists of clearly committed Catholics, not striving for glory, fame, or to exceed all others in their work in the EF, but to pour their hearts out to Christ through the sacred Gregorian Chant and other works sung at the Latin Masses. Some of them even contribute to the Saturday 5pm Novus Ordo at St. Patrick`s Catholic Church downtown, singing the major sung parts of the Mass.

    Enough of my praises for my colleagues in Faith. Here are all the details, as per my initial Summer 2014 special offerings page:

    As a minor note, I will be serving in the role as boat bearer, alongside my familiar colleagues in the Mass, and some new people too. Can`t wait. 

    2) Other offerings in our Archdiocese: For those whom are unable to travel the distance to Scarborough for our Mass in the evening, or are unavailable in evening hours for whatever reason, there are other EF Masses being held in the Archdiocese on the EF Feast day. 

    The first offering during the day, is the usual daily offering at Holy Family Church at 1130am (weekdays) under the Oratorians of St. Phillip Neri in Toronto, in the Parkdale neighbourhood. Please see here for more information as to their location and usual times.

    The second offering is westward, at St. Joseph`s Catholic Church in Streetsville/Mississauga, Ontario. This offering is being done with the assistance of the Toronto Traditional Mass Society. See more details in my Summer 2014 post under Friday's date and Feast of the Sacred Heart. 

    3) The Latin Mass Society of Canada: I would like to introduce one of the newest members to the Federation International Una Voce (FIUV) in my wonderful country, The Latin Mass Society of Canada (LMSC). For those who don`t know, FIUV is a lay organization which was started after the Second Vatican Council, whose aims revolve around the preservation and promotion of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite. They are represented in a number of countries and are one of the longest running organizations who have been vocal in their aims and in ensuring the EF is respected and promoted. You may look up more information on their website, here. 

    The LMSC is the latest addition in Canada, who is a fully affiliated National Chapter of the FIUV. According to their Facebook Page: ``The Latin Mass Society of Canada, a Member of Una Voce International FIUV, endeavours to promote the Traditional Latin Mass and Sacraments among the laity and clergy throughout Canada, in accordance with the provisions of the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum of Pope Benedict XVI. We do this through a network of autonomous chapters and members who support the aims of Federatio Internationalis Una Voce.``

    I highly encourage you to contact them and to support their work. They currently have chapters in various spots in Canada. Furthermore, the president of LMSC, Paul Fournier, had been elected to the executive of FIUV as one of its vice-presidents. 

    The secretary of the LMSC, Donna O`Connor, had left her business card at St. Lawrence the Martyr, and so, I reproduce it here so you can get in contact with LMSC, though the email is latinmass.canada@gmail.com:


    4) This is what you use side altars for in a Church: Have you ever gone to one of the non-wreckovated or non-modern Churches in a parish and wondered about those little long tables at the side, if "that is an altar, aside from the one in front of me?" The answer is likely, yes. Sadly, with the widespread promotion of the Novus Ordo, and hatred towards Ad Orientem, the usage of these altars died for the most part. These days, with the return of the EF, priests are now starting to use them again, even saying an EF Low Mass at the same time as the Novus Ordo Mass on the main altar. In fact, that's what the side altars are for, so other priests can say their own private, or daily Masses, should the main altar be used. 

    Well, I had never witnessed this phenomenon happen in any modern church, just pictures on the internet. If any of you are in the know in the EF in Toronto, one of the most reverent and longest serving EF priests in our diocese is Father Liam Gavigan. Every weekend, he travels in from Ottawa in order to assist St. Lawrence in its EF Mass duties, by saying the Friday Evening, and Saturday Morning Masses at St. Lawrence the Martyr. He also does the Eucharistic Benediction and Adoration when he can stay longer on the weekend at SLTM. I caught him doing this Sunday before the 7pm Novus Ordo. 

    So, what`s the story? After my practice, I got to catch a certain Holy Father of Christ setting up something to my right. Here's what it looked like from my viewpoint:
    What's that, a Chalice, Mass Cards, and such to the right??? Uh shouldn't they be on the Center???

    So naturally, I took a closer view, and sure enough, Father Gavigan had set up the side altar for Mass the following morning, likely before he would go back to Ottawa or because the main altar would be in use (likely for the Novus Ordo as SLTM's Monday Latin Mass is 11am).


    While I have never gotten to witness a Mass with an altar for side usage yet, seeing it set up for the first time like this is so cool. 

    And that's all she wrote for today folks! Please attend the Latin Mass on Friday, whether it be the day or the evening at one of the special offerings. If you attend the SPGC organized Mass, you will see me serving at brief points (boat bearer is only needed a few times), and I am happy to meet you after Mass if you like.

    2. The Oratorians of St Phillip Neri

    For those of you who cannot make it to Richmond Hill, or have a preference for the Oratorians, there will be first, the regular Latin Low Mass for this feast day at its regular time of 1130am, at Holy Family Church in Parkdale on 1372 King Street West.

    In addition, there is a Solemn High Mass at Holy Family for 6pm EST as well. It is unknown at this current time if it is a Novus Ordo (with Latin?) or an Extraordinary Form Mass of the Roman Rite. Next's weeks bulletin will reveal the form of the Mass hopefully.     Yes I know it's long overdue .... it's still almost done. I WILL get it released sometime. Give me a break between work, my girlfriend, and such alright! Christ has me on a new path lately and it's not exactly easygoing, nor devoid of stresses of life.

    May Posting 1: A Trad Behaving Badly, and ++Collins Being Publicly Pro-life

    Warning: This series of three posts are dealing with specific entities and/or parties pertaining to radical traditionalism, bullying, and Trads Behaving Badly. Any replies to me from TBBs or their adherents, will be archived for legal/personal purposes, and no replies will be issued by me. In addition no comments from the aforementioned parties will be released, but again will be archived. Should you release something personally to harass me, you will likely be committing spiritual sins of detraction, and/or the grave sin of calumny (the Devil's work). While I cannot control what is posted on your individual webpages, as long as Canadian/International law permits, you are free to do so in their own websites. Be warned that I do document for my personal records, things on the WWW, so think thrice before you post anything in reply to this posting, directly or on your blogs. My blog rules also apply here too. 

     And NO I am not taking down these next three posts before or after said events taking place, by your request or via abusing clergy and/or laypeople. Only the Office of the Archdiocese of Toronto, via its civilly legal, and or episcopal representatives, or the episcopacy themselves, can place an honest request that I will comply to, and I will comment publicly such a request was made in a future post. or modify/update the existing content.

    Hello Everyone .... if you are still around.

    I know I am pretty late to the game on these topics, but hey, this is a combination of things that have poked at my craw, what is happening in the Archdiocese of Toronto (and a little beyond) with regard to some Latin Mass stuff, and the Trads Behaving Badly that deter people like myself from wanting full participation, or even part-time participation in the Latin Mass. With a few good items on the docket, it's time I make an appearance again. Cue some sarcasm or wittiness.

    4 topics to post, the 3rd and 4th together in the third post, with 3 posts over 3 days.

    Topic 1: A Cardinal goes publicly Pro-Life .... and there are still Trads Behaving Badly out there poo-pooing him. 

    So, once upon a time there was a privileged, spoiled child who rode on the coat-tails of his Prime Minister daddy. His daddy was Pierre Elliot Trudeau, notorious for speed driving the liberalness of Canada, via things like the Charter of Human Rights and freedom (grossly abused in justice, with Human Rights councils to boot). 

    The little boy, Justin Trudeau, grew up, and decided he could be like his dad. Only thing is, as the federal party leader in 2014, he decided he only wanted like-minded thinkers like him being in his party. Despite being a baptized Catholic, he is violating his faith by professing anti-life and pro-baby killing beliefs, and decided that only pro-death/anti-lifers can be a part of the Liberal Party. 

    Now, Trads Behaving Badly like to chastise the bishops time and time again for incompetency and silent assent (cough, Michael Voris, cough), most of the time hiding behind pseudo-names in cowardice, though some do use their real names or a combination. Slander and detraction parties are their bread-and-butter on their blogs. But last week, many TBBs actually has something to praise a Canadian archbishop and cardinal about. 

    One of the greatest modern princes of the Canadian Catholic Church decided that this pronouncement of Justin Trudeau was unacceptable, and so, trying to be a good shepherd to cull this one lost sheep, he issued THIS AWESOME PRO-LIFE LETTER, admonishing the anti-life and anti-baby leader of the Federal Liberal party.  

    Unfortunately, some Trads Behaving Badly have hearts of stone, no matter what our "Novus-Ordo" bishops do that is outside of what is the usual modus operandi for Novus Ordo bishops. Unlike even some of their cantankerous peers, these Pharisaical TBBs think nothing is good enough unless you are close to radically traditionalist in your actions and mindset, or a clone of Cardinal Raymond Burke if you are not with the SSPX.

    I usually detest giving these TBBs the time of day or direct shout-outs, nor blog hits, but sometimes, people deserve to have the spotlight shone on them as an example of what NOT to do as a traditionalist blogger, as well as what kind of individuals are spiritually poisonous to the functioning of Latin Mass/Traditional Catholic communities and Catholicism online.

    One in particular, Contra/diction!, could not contain himself this past week. TBB Contra/diction!, is actually Eric Alcock, who according to his blog and about page, hails from the Maritimes in Newfoundland. He even has an about page here with statements of fidelity to the Magisterium and Holy Mother Church. Here's a screenshot of said page with the declaration and Contra's identity:



    This past week, he created two posts where he smears my beloved ++Collins. Here's the first, and the follow up after with my Eminence fictitiously writing to Hitler. While the posts remaining online aren't highly vitriolic, you can tell "reading between the lines" that it is detraction of His Eminence and his efforts. Another smack in the face to my Eminence. How nice of him to harass people online from miles away on a computer, likely in his domicile, from an island in Canada. 

    So what are my points on this Catholic who demonstrates a "Lent without Easter?":

    1) Eric Alcock/Contra demonstrates once again why the heck most Catholics do NOT want to be a part of Traditional Catholicism, which, not always, though many a time is tied to the Latin Mass. Sadly, it's these people's online and in person example that make such a path undesirable and only strengthens TBBs' ``enemies`` and what the TBBs call the Novus Ordo/NewChurch" of heresy and false lies. We young people .... are on the Internet a lot you know, and what you show us on here determines how we respond to things and even, what guides us in our faith when so many of our spiritual leaders fail at what they are doing, or are hypocrites/lukewarm themselves.

    Alcock is clearly in favour of the Latin Mass as seen in this post here. And so, here we have another example of the majority of these cases, as an online/in person Latin Mass TBB.  

    2) Generally speaking, what is tarnation is he thinking, commenting on our Archdiocese and my spiritual head, ++Collins in this volatile manner of the two posts, when he's all the way east in the Maritimes? Shouldn't a primary focus be his own episcopal representative(s)? It's one thing for me, and other Toronto TBBs,  to give proper, and truly Catholic and charitable fraternal correction and or analysis about ++Collins being my prelate, if the situation genuinely calls for it, after much prayer and thought. It's another thing for some guy bodies of water and land masses away to launch a smear campaign at another bishop in another diocese when it is uncalled for in the safety of his own diocese. 

    3) Sadly, Eric is the sole outcast who think ++Collins' letter "sucked" for lack of a better word, while his other Trad Behaving Badly contemporaries on the web lauded and were impressed by ++Collins' brave action, despite the increasing hostility towards Catholics in the modern world, and without such commentary post lauds. Eric's companions online and in person, might secretly have the same opinions about my Eminence, but at least they are keeping those opinions out of the public sphere of the Internet in the current moment (that does not exclude past sins!) and praising ++Collins for taking a public stand ... when other bishops continue to be "careerists" that Pope Francis warns against, and clearly does not support. To their credit, even other TBBs, including ones in my archdiocese, have shown contrary example to Alcock, Credit is due to these TBBs for being exemplary in the right manner with regard to the letter.

    4) My genereal question to everyone ... As a Catholic would you rather A) ++Collins did absolutely nothing like the "careerist" bishops, adding fuel to the fires of distrust and anger against our princes of the Church, and give more false reason to separate from Rome's and go to radical traditionalists NOT in communion with the Church? or B) that our prelates do something, anything, to stand against modernism, world and institutional Church corruption, and moral evils? And in doing so, the TBBs show a positive example and stop giving weaker souls reason to defect from Holy Mother Church to radical and non-canonical traditionalists?

    What would you desire all parties involve do as a Catholic?

    Summary: Eric Alcock/Contra/dticion!: Another reason for Catholics and I, NOT to re-enter or even dabble in the Latin Mass and/or fully embrace the Latin Mass/Traditional Catholicism, even ``part time.`` This is even despite being not in my archdiocese.

The first accounted Solemn Latin Mass in the Archdiocese (outside of the normal Latin Mass parishes, and in my Fall 2013 listings link below,) will be taking place tomorrow evening at St. Cecilia's Church, Toronto, 7pm (with rosary and confessions at 630pm.)     Hello Everyone,

    I have updated the page for the "2013 Fall Latin Masses for Solemnities and Feast Days in the Archdiocese of Toronto" with new information on another upcoming Solemn Latin Mass in the Archdiocese of Toronto.

    The new entry is being organized by the St. Patrick's Gregorian Choir at a new Mass site .... The Newman Centre at the University of Toronto! I am quite pleased at this, as I have a number of good Catholic friends who are part of the Centre's vibrant ministry towards young adults! Believe me, this is exactly the right place to expose such a treasure as the Latin Mass. I have attended a number of their retreats and events over the last few years, and I've covered a couple of their events in the past, attended by my fellow "Newmanites" here:

    Update to Latin Mass This Saturday June 29, 2013. NOT PARISH held but TTMS-SPONSORED Latin Mass

    Update to the posting for the Mass at St. Joseph's "Streetsville" in Mississauga

    Due to the available information that was at my disposal on the internet for the Masses at the time of THIS posting for the Solemn Latin Mass, it seemed as if this would have been the first Toronto Archdiocesan Latin Mass without the co-operation of the established Latin Mass parish programs (E.g. Oratorians of St. Phillip Neri, St. Lawrence the Martyr), or an Extraordinary Form choir (e.g. St. Patrick's Gregorian Choir, Toronto Traditional Mass Society).

    In addition, the pictures of the poster on the internet did not have additional information I have obtained today, and I have not seen any posters at my respective Parishes for Sunday Mass, nor bulletin inserts promoting this Mass. This event is also NOT on the Archdiocesan News and event webpage.

    NEW INFORMATION

    I found the following text today on the blog called WITNESS at http://torontocatholicwitness.blogspot.ca/, of whom I extend a "Hat tip" to for the update:

    "This coming Saturday, June 29th, the Toronto Traditiona Mass Society-Una Voce Toronto is pleased to host a Solemn Latin Mass at 11 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (5440, Durie Road, Mississauga)."

    Therefore, this mass will NOT be a Toronto Archdiocesan "solo" effort for the Latin Mass. It is a Solemn Latin Mass organized by the Toronto Traditional Mass Society. As of Today, June 25, 2013, there is still, no ordinary, diocesan parish in the core of the Archdiocese of Toronto that has chosen to hold a Latin Mass without the assistance of a current EF parish or a Latin Mass choir, outside of their normal Novus Ordo Masses.

    THEREFORE, I STAND CORRECTED, though I will NOT change the content of my original posting. The same jubilations and accolades will be given to whatever parish does this in the future. If there has been misleading of anyone, I did not tend to mislead you, and I myself thought similar before this new information was brought to light. Please notify your friends and family if they were misinformed it was not an EF choir organized or primary EF base parish Mass.

    Regardless, please view my now UPDATED Solemn Latin Mass Summer 2013 posting here for the details if you are interested in going. Please continue to support the Tridentine Latin Mass/Extraordinary Form in the Archdiocese of Toronto, one of the most VITAL tools to the New Evangelization.

    ATTENTION: Latin Mass Transfer in Kinkora, ON to London, ON for Latin Mass in Kitchener-Waterloo-London Area

    Hello Everyone.

    While I do not frequently cover the outskirts of the Archdiocese or other dioceses' efforts for the purposes of this blog, "start-ups" and, may the Lord forbid them, closings of Latin Mass efforts, should be duly noted for the sake of documentation and making it known we care, regardless of area of the diocese.

    In addition, I know some of you, be you university students who travel to London area universities for your education, or some of you from this diocese, travel(ed) to the Latin Mass in Kinkora on occasion or during your academic year. 

    From the Facebook page of Vox Cantoris (a.k.a. David Domet, choirmaster of Toronto Traditional Mass Society), comes this highly important update:

    "Effective July 1, the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite will cease at St. Patrick's Kinkora in the Diocese of London." 

    " However, Bishop Ronald Fabbro has long desired that the Mass be in a more permanent location in the seat of the Diocese, the City of London." 

    "Therefore: the celebration of the Extraordinary Form of the Mass will be transferred to London, Ontario. New location: John Paul II High School Chapel. New time: Each Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

    beginning in September it will be permanently celebrated at Regina Mundi. College (High School Chapel)." 

    "Coordinator: Fr. Paul Nicholson (assisted by: Fr. John Johnson, Fr. Ross Bartley, Fr. Tom Ferrera, Fr. Ray Lawhead, and Fr. Theo Pinto). That's right six, SIX diocesan priests from the Diocese of London will celebrate the Holy Mass on a rotation. It will continue to be a full Sung Mass and the opportunity will now arise for Solemn Mass on occasion. The TTMS-UNA VOCE TORONTO gives thanks to the LORD for the blessings of Father Nicholson and these priests of the Diocese and especially to Bishop Ronald Fabbro for his pastoral care of the 100 people who attend at Kinkora weekly, many who travel from over 1 hour away, including the City of London."

    This is likely because Fr. Paul Nicholson has been allowed to have a similar or the same type of online/in-person ministry as well known priest, Fr. Robert Barron of the "Catholicism" DVD series that has been shown in many different parishes. Fr. Nicholson has a website that is under development but will expand to include more content (hopefully), here: www.fatherpaulnicholson.com

    Please pass on the information to those attendees in the Kitchener-Waterloo-London area, or whom are known to attend the masses here on occasions.
